a boulevard and some indie rock

a new found enjoyment in my life is to have a boulevard and listen to to the likes of pedro the lion, damien jurado, and michael knott. as a teenager i listened to these guys, but it has only been recently when they have really stood out to me as amazing artists. here is a sampling of their lyrics:

and now that i’m in your shadow // damien juradodamien jurado

i would rather hide behind you
or stand in your eclipse
the sun does not move me like it used to…
neither do you

and greenland i am with you…
i was once unwanted.
in the front seats all with strangers
i too was earths ceiling.
i lost all feeling.

and now i’m in you shadow
i am motionless
i am black

i’ll be a crash landing who can change
the landscape talking
and when i begin to stutter
the land will be shaking
god will be clapping

secret of the easy yoke // pedro the lion (david bazan)pedro the lion

i could hear the church bells ringing
they peeled aloud your praise
the member’s faces were smiling
with their hands outstretched to shake
it’s true they did not move me
my heart was hard and tired
their perfect fire annoyed me
i could not find you anywhere

could someone please tell me the story
of sinners ransomed from the fall
i still have never seen you, and somedays
i don’t love you at all

the devoted were wearing bracelets
to remind them of why they came
some concrete motivation
when the abstract could not do the same
but if all that’s left is duty
i’m falling on my sword
at least then i would not serve
an unseen, distant lord

could someone please tell me the story
of sinners ransomed from the fall
i still have never seen you, and somedays
i don’t love you at all

if this is only a test
i hope that i’m passing
cause i’m losing steam
and i still want to trust you

peace, be still
peace, be still
peace, be still
peace, be still

halo // michael knottmichael knott

she can take me to the place i love
sometimes it’s a hard place to find
even when the heart is hardened
i see something in her eyes
kick and screaming on the outside
something hidden within
i think she knows about it
cause when she holds me close
i hear her soul

hell no
i don’t mind if your halo don’t glow like it used to glow
i don’t care if you change your mind every tempting road

she’s always reaching out for heaven
says it’s a hard place to find
i swear and say its everywhere
freed is the taker’s line
slip into the darkest color
nothing but a stain to show
i think we both know we know about it
cause when she holds me close i hear her soul

hell no
i don’t mind if your halo don’t glow like it used to glow
i don’t care if you change your mind with every tempting road

i’ll be on your side with something here
to let you know
i don’t care if your halo don’t glow
